Helen Hunt and Hank Azaria first met each other in the mid-1990s. The two fell in love and continued dating for about five years. Come 1999, they decided to get married, and everybody thought they were a match made in heaven. However, after just 17 months of marriage, the two separated. Hunt filed for a legal separation, claiming they had already broken up six months before the announcement.

Their publicist then released an official statement about the issue, stressing it was a decision they both made. With the degree of privacy Hunt and Azaria had back then, no one revealed the reason for their split or who initiated the separation. However, in an interview with the actor in 2017, he admitted he was jealous of his then-wife’s success. He even revealed that jealousy made things difficult for them as a couple.
