BO DEREK
Although Fantasies was Bo Derek’s movie debut, her first film to be released was 1977’s Orca. She then beat out Kim Basinger, Melanie Griffith, and Christie Brinkley for the role of Jenny Hanley in 10, a character that earned her a Golden Globe nomination. The film was a hit with both audiences and critics, making more than $70 million at the box office. Derek also played Jane in Tarzan, the Ape Man and starred in Bolero, films that were directed by her former husband, John Derek. The couple’s final film collaboration was 1989’s Ghosts Can’t Do It.
Derek published her memoir in 2002, and recently in 2020, she made a documentary titled Bo Derek: In My Own Words. She also made investments in Bo Derek Pet Care, which sells face wash, shampoo, and conditioner for dogs. A portion of her company’s profits is donated to organizations for retired military dogs.
